Uttarakhand health check-up scheme covers 60,000 construction workers, UP studies model

About 60,000 registered construction workers in Uttarakhand have got health check-ups under the Chief Minister Sharmik Swasthya Yojana, state labour commissioner Prakash Chandra Dumka said. Uttar Pradesh is now studying the scheme.
A team of the UP Labour department, led by additional labour commissioner Junaid, visited Uttarakhand on Saturday and met officials of the Uttarakhand Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board. The team went through the scheme's basic framework, technical arrangements, working process and main features.
Dumka said the scheme gives health check-ups to registered construction workers and their eligible dependents, finds serious illnesses early and arranges medical consultation and referral for treatment. He said it runs on existing systems and resources, with no capital investment.
The UP team looked at the technical setup, registration and checking process, health check-up camps, test reports and coordination with other departments, and discussed a similar system in UP.
