Odisha directs DGP to ensure PM-Rahat police verification within 24 hours

Odisha government has told Director General of Police, Vinaytosh Mishra, to fix delays in police verification for the PM-Rahat scheme. This came after a review meeting led by Development Commissioner Deoranjan Kumar Singh. He noted that the number of beneficiaries in Odisha stayed low.

Data from Ministry of Road Transport and Highways shows that by July 31, 2026, Odisha had 380 cases approved under PM-Rahat. Another 58 cases were dropped from the scheme since police did not reply in time. Also, 32 cases were found ineligible by state police.

Police Response Time

State government has ordered all Superintendents of Police and Deputy Commissioners of Police to check PM-Rahat cases fast. Hospitals start the treatment request on the digital system. It goes to district police through Electronic Detailed Accident Report (eDAR). Police must confirm within 24 hours for non-dangerous cases and within 48 hours for serious cases.

About PM-Rahat Scheme

PM-Rahat started nationally on February 13, 2026. It gives cashless treatment up to ₹1.5 lakh per road accident victim for seven days from the accident date. The scheme covers eligible accidents with motor vehicles on any road. It links eDAR with National Health Authority's Transaction Management System (TMS 2.0) and 112 Emergency Response Support System.

State government also asked State Transport Authority and Health Department to spread info about PM-Rahat. Crime Branch must make a daily tracking dashboard for the scheme.
