Gujarat targets insurance cover for 1 lakh animals in 2026-27

Gujarat has set a target to insure 1 lakh animals under Pashudhan Bima Sahay Yojana in 2026-27, with cover of up to ₹40,000 per animal for one year.
Livestock farmers pay ₹229 per animal, while the state pays ₹1,300, or 85% of the premium. Each family can insure up to 10 large animals or 100 small animals. Eligible large animals include cows, buffaloes, horses, donkeys, camels, bulls, bullocks and male buffaloes.
Centre approved ₹250 lakh for Gujarat under National Livestock Mission in 2026-27, and released ₹115 lakh as the first instalment. Gujarat separately approved ₹55 lakh under its state-funded livestock insurance assistance scheme.
Applications for 87,147 animals have been received through the i-Khedut portal so far. Minister Jitu Vaghani said the Animal Husbandry Department is arranging cover for all eligible applicants. In the previous year, 48,695 animals belonging to 12,228 livestock farmers were insured. Vaghani urged farmers to keep identification tags intact and provide accurate registration details.
