Applying online through the official KSB portal is the only way to get this medical support. Application must be routed through your local Zila Sainik Welfare Officer (ZSWO), who checks all your documents before forwarding the file to Kendriya Sainik Board Secretariat for approval.

STEP 1 - Visit the official Kendriya Sainik Board portal at ksb.gov.in and click on the 'Register' button on the home page.

STEP 2 - Fill out the registration form with correct personal, service and contact details. Upload your recent passport-size photograph and save the form. Your login password will be sent to your registered email ID.

STEP 3 - Open the activation link received on your email and log in to the KSB portal using your registered email and the password.

STEP 4 - Select 'RMEWF - Medical Treatment' scheme from the list, enter the treatment details, and upload scanned copies of all required documents. Each document must be attested by your local Zila Sainik Welfare Officer (ZSWO).

STEP 5 - Your ZSWO will check the application and call you for a physical verification appointment at the Zila Sainik Board office.

STEP 6 - After verification, ZSWO will forward the recommended application to Kendriya Sainik Board Secretariat for final approval. Once approved, the amount is credited directly to your bank account (SBI or PNB only).

Eligibility for RMEWF Medical Treatment Assistance

Not every ex-serviceman can apply for this scheme. It is made only for non-pensioners of lower ranks and their widows. Check who can apply below:

  • Applicant should be a non-pensioner ex-serviceman, or the widow of a non-pensioner ex-serviceman.
  • Rank of the ex-serviceman must be Havildar or equivalent rank and below (this covers Sepoy, Naik, Lance Naik, Havildar and their equal ranks in Navy and Air Force).
  • Application should be recommended by the concerned Zila Sainik Board (ZSB).
  • Medical treatment should be taken at a recognised government hospital only, and bills must match rates approved under CGHS or ECHS.
  • Pensioner ex-servicemen and their widows are not eligible for this scheme.

Benefits Under RMEWF Medical Treatment Scheme

Under this scheme, an eligible ex-serviceman or widow gets a cash benefit of up to ₹30,000 per financial year. This is a one-time claim per financial year and the amount is credited directly to the applicant's SBI or PNB account after approval by KSB Secretariat.

The money is meant only for routine medical treatment expenses at government hospitals. Treatment of serious diseases like cancer, kidney failure, heart problems and similar conditions is not covered here, as they are handled under a separate KSB scheme for serious diseases of non-pensioner ex-servicemen.

Kendriya Sainik Board issued the official cut-off calendar for RMEWF online applications for financial year 2026-27 through letter number 195/Welfare/Misc/2025-26 dated April 2, 2026. Applicants are advised to submit their medical bills and other documents to the Zila Sainik Board on time, as time-barred applications are rejected by ZSBs and Regional Sainik Boards. Medical treatment claims should be filed within the same financial year in which the treatment was taken.
