Preservation of Tiatr Literature scheme encourages writers and lyricists in Goa to document and publish research on various aspects of Tiatr, including songs and music. Tiatr Academy of Goa runs this scheme to keep the rich cultural heritage of the Konkani stage alive by giving honorariums and printing support to eligible artistes.
Preservation of Tiatr Literature is a dedicated scheme launched by Tiatr Academy under the Art, Culture and Museums Department, Government of Goa. It helps artistes document and publish scripts, lyrics of songs (kantaram), music, and one-act plays related to Tiatr, Khell Tiatr, and Khell. By preserving these creative works in book form, the government makes sure the history of Tiatr stays alive for future generations. The scheme addresses a simple problem: although thousands of performances happen every year, many scripts never get published. Through this scheme, eligible artistes get professional printing support, honorariums, and a proper way to distribute their work.
Preservation of Tiatr Literature - Overview
The scheme works on a first-come, first-served basis and applications are considered as per the availability of funds. Tiatr Academy of Goa manages the printing of a minimum of 500 copies of each approved book in Konkani using the Roman script. Preference is always given to works written by Tiatr artistes of yesteryears, so that the memory of older generations is preserved first.
