Uttar Pradesh Free Bus Travel Scheme Reaches 80 Lakh Beneficiaries

Uttar Pradesh government helped 80 lakh people travel for free during the Raksha Bandhan festival. This scheme let women and one person travelling with them use Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses at no cost.

Travel statistics during the festival

The scheme ran from 6:00 am on August 27 to midnight on August 29. Many people used the service. Records show 49.96 lakh free tickets were issued on the day of Raksha Bandhan. Over 38.51 lakh women and 20.71 lakh companions used the service during the first two days.

The state also gave free travel to women aged 60 and above under Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrushakti Yojana. UPSRTC officials handled the crowd by adding more staff and running more buses to help sisters travel easily to meet their brothers.
