Regional Rural Banks Record All-Time High Profit of Rs 10,176 Crore

Department of Financial Services Secretary Sanjay Lohiya praised Regional Rural Banks for their good performance in 2025-26. These banks made a net profit of ₹10,176 crore, which is a 49 percent increase from the last year. Bad loans also dropped to record lows of 5.3 percent and 2.1 percent.

Progress in rural banking

Currently, 28 Regional Rural Banks work through 22,273 branches across the country. Their total business is now over ₹13.5 lakh crore. These banks are important for financial reach, as they opened more than 54.98 lakh new Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana accounts last year. Their credit-deposit ratio reached 75.2 percent.

The government asked sponsor banks to help Regional Rural Banks by improving their technology systems. There is a clear focus on increasing digital banking to help customers in rural areas. Bank heads are also asked to create new loan products to help give more credit to areas that need it most.
