West Bengal to Implement Ayushman Bharat Scheme from August 16

West Bengal starts Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme on August 16. This scheme gives cashless treatment coverage of up to ₹5 lakh to about 1.5 crore families. It will help nearly six crore people in the state. Health Minister Sharadwat Mukherrjee confirmed that 1,930 hospitals are now ready to offer these services. This includes 1,303 private hospitals and 627 government hospitals.

Scheme Funding and Enrollment

The state government will pay 40 percent of the costs. The central government will pay the remaining 60 percent. Eligible people can use their Aadhaar number to get treatment. If a person does not have a card, they can sign up at the hospital. Ayushman Bharat will run alongside Swasthya Sathi and Mukhyamantri Swasthya Bima Yojana for now. The state will review how these work together over the next three months to make health coverage easy to access.
