Punjab Expands Mukh Mantri Tirth Yatra Yojana

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal recently flagged off 15 new buses for the state's free pilgrimage scheme. This expansion of the Mukh Mantri Tirth Yatra Yojana now covers direct routes to sacred sites like Salasar Balaji, Khatu Shyam, Haridwar, and Mathura.

Senior citizens traveling under this scheme get free air-conditioned transport, meals, and medical support. By covering these costs, the government helps families who could not afford these trips otherwise. Although the administration considers this a welfare success, some economists worry about the long-term effect of freebie schemes on the state's debt.
