Uttarakhand Expands Rural Road Network Under PMGSY

Rural connectivity in Uttarakhand improved as 14,372 km of roads were built over the last decade. This progress under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana is a jump from the 7,539 km built between when the scheme started and 2016-17. The state built 7,462 km of these roads between 2019-20 and 2021-22, even with pandemic-related problems.

Road network expansion

Efforts now focus on building new rural roads to reach unconnected villages, rather than just fixing existing paths. The fourth phase of the scheme targets 2024-29. The state government is seeking more approvals to make sure all villages have reliable, all-weather road access to markets and services. Better road infrastructure is a top priority to help local growth and improve daily life for mountain communities.
