Uttar Pradesh to Resume Smart Meter Rollout After Awareness Drive

Uttar Pradesh will restart smart meter installation after a consumer awareness campaign. State Power Minister AK Sharma said the government paused the project to make sure citizens understand how this clear, scientific technology helps monitor electricity use.

Officials plan to restart installations once they hit certain awareness targets. This work is part of a larger plan to modernize the power sector in the state. Uttar Pradesh currently ranks second nationally in installations under PM Surya Ghar Yojana, behind Gujarat. Minister Sharma believes the state will reach the top spot within a month.

Bioenergy focus in Uttar Pradesh

The state is also focusing on bioenergy. As the biggest producer of compressed biogas, Uttar Pradesh is inviting investors to use its large supply of farm waste, which totals 60 million tonnes every year.
