Uttar Pradesh Launches Free Bus Travel for Elderly Women
Uttar Pradesh Cabinet approved Lokmata Ahilyabai Matrushakti Yojana to help senior women in the state. Women aged 60 and older can now travel for free in all public buses run by Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC).
## Public Transport Benefits
This rule applies to all 14,244 buses in the fleet. To get this benefit, eligible women only need to show a valid government identity card like a Voter ID. Transport Minister Dayashankar Singh noted that this step will help over 1 crore women. The cabinet also approved ₹400 crore to buy 250 new electric buses to improve public transport.
