UP Road Accident Relief Scheme Provides 17.33 Crore Aid

Yatri Rahat Evam Suraksha Yojana provides support to victims of accidents involving Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) buses. Between 2017-18 and 2025-26, the government gave out over Rs 17.33 crore to help in 342 cases of death and injury. This scheme helps the families of deceased passengers and injured people get money to manage their expenses.

New rules for this scheme started in April 2026. Coverage now includes pedestrians and others affected by accidents involving UPSRTC or contracted buses. Compensation for death is now fixed at Rs 7.50 lakh for adults, Rs 3.75 lakh for children on half-tickets, and Rs 1.87 lakh for children traveling free. For injured victims, the scheme gives medical help between Rs 10,000 and Rs 25,000. Limits for severe injuries or major burns go up to Rs 2.50 lakh.

Scheme rules and safety

The scheme does not cover cases where official investigations confirm the victim was at fault. The government keeps checking driver performance and bus safety to reduce road accidents across the state.
