Universal Health Coverage in Rajasthan: Progress and Path to Full Assurance

Rajasthan changed its health services by moving to a universal health cover model. Mukhyamantri Ayushman Arogya Yojana (MAAY) now gives free treatment up to ₹25 lakh per family every year. This scheme joins with the national Ayushman Bharat digital system and covers more than 1.4 crore families. It includes 1,798 treatment packages and 3,219 procedures to help families with high medical costs.

Challenges and Future Steps

Insurance coverage rose from 18.7% in 2015-16 to 87.8% by NFHS-5, but some problems exist. Difficulties like rejected claims, Jan Aadhaar database errors, and most private hospitals being in cities like Jaipur and Jodhpur remain. Experts think full coverage would cost about ₹1,019 crore each year. This is only 0.18% of the state budget of ₹5.37 lakh crore. Linking enrolment to voter lists and improving rural health centers are ways to make sure every citizen gets support.
