Tamil Nadu Launches Major Tourism Safety and Sustainability Initiatives

Tamil Nadu is improving its tourism by focusing on safety, nature-friendly practices, and better travel links. Tourism Minister S Rajesh Kumar said the state will install AI-based security cameras at popular tourist spots. These will help keep travelers safe, with a special focus on protecting women. To add more security, new tourist police units will start in five main areas: Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Thanjavur, Poompuhar, and Hogenakkal.

Future plans for tourism

Sustainability is a top priority. The government plans to replace all motorboats run by the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation with eco-friendly electric boats. Also, officials are checking if they can build new ropeway systems to help people reach hill stations more easily. This includes a possible route connecting Kumbakarai Falls, Vellagavi, Vattakanal, and the Kodaikanal bus stand. These changes come as visitor numbers rose from 21.88 crore in 2022 to 36.46 crore in 2025.
