Tamil Nadu Announces New Rooftop Solar Subsidy Scheme

Tamil Nadu government launched Rooftop Solar Subsidy Scheme for 2026-27, working with the central Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. This scheme gives a state-level subsidy of up to ₹1 lakh for home users, which helps lower installation costs.

How to get support

Under the combined central and state rules, households can get money help. For example, a 1kW system gets a ₹30,000 central subsidy. A 3kW or larger system gets the maximum central help of ₹78,000, plus the state amount. Users must apply via the PM Surya Ghar National Portal and choose Tangedco or TNPDCL to start. Subsidies are only for Indian-made solar panels that meet local production rules.

Apartments and gated communities can also take part by forming a solar committee and getting a no-objection certificate from their resident welfare association. With a 25-year performance warranty on panels, this scheme reduces monthly electricity bills for residents across the state.
