Tamil Nadu Announces Health Insurance Hike and Higher Milk Procurement Prices

On August 19, 2026, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay announced new welfare updates for the state. The annual health insurance cover under Chief Minister's Comprehensive Health Insurance Scheme increased from ₹5 lakh to ₹25 lakh. This change helps families pay for expensive treatment costs.

Aavin will now pay farmers ₹41 per litre for milk, up from ₹38. This ₹3 increase per litre helps over 3.16 lakh dairy farmers across the state. Although this adds a monthly cost of ₹30 crore to the state budget, the Chief Minister noted that protecting farmer income is important.

Healthcare and agriculture support

The government also shared plans for a new 400-bed hospital in Perambur. This project will cost ₹300 crore. New cancer centres are also planned to improve public health services.
