Sanitation Worker Turns Entrepreneur Through NAMASTE-SUY Scheme

Sushil Kumar Sharma, from Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, moved from working as a manual sewer cleaner to running his own sanitation business. He got support from Swachhta Udyami Yojana (SUY), which is part of the NAMASTE scheme run by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment. He now runs his own business using cleaning machines.

Business Success Through Mechanization

On 15 January 2026, Sushil received financial support for a project worth ₹10.70 lakh. This package included a loan of ₹5.35 lakh and a subsidy of ₹5.35 lakh. With this, he bought a tractor fitted with a suction tank. This change helped his monthly income grow from ₹15,000 to between ₹30,000 and ₹35,000. By using machines, he stopped hazardous manual work and now has a safer, more stable way to earn a living.
