Punjab Launches Meri Rasoi Yojana for Food Security

Punjab government launched Meri Rasoi Yojana to help poor families with food supplies. The scheme started in Bhalwan village, Sangrur district, to help families manage daily expenses during inflation.

Eligible families, reaching 40 lakh in number, will get free ration kits every three months. Each kit includes 2 kg dal, 2 kg sugar, 1 kg salt, 200 grams turmeric powder, and 1 litre mustard oil. These items come on top of the usual wheat given under the National Food Security Act. Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said over 4.5 lakh kits reached people who also get benefits from the Punjab Smart Ration Card Scheme. Also, the state is making the Punjab Doorstep Ration Delivery Scheme easier to use for everyone.

Scheme funding and distribution

Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema set a budget of Rs 900 crore for the 2026-27 year to keep the scheme running well. MARKFED manages the scheme and checks food quality to make sure only good items reach families. The government will take legal action if anyone reports bad quality supplies.
