Progress Report on Ayushman Bharat Healthcare Initiatives

India has improved healthcare a lot over the last 12 years. Government efforts aim to make medical care cheap and easy to reach for everyone. Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana is the main part of this, offering ₹5 lakh annual insurance to the poorest 40 percent of families and all senior citizens aged 70 and above.

As of August 12, 2026, the progress is clear. More than 45.5 crore Ayushman Cards are issued, and 12.69 crore hospitalizations are covered. The system now supports 38,466 hospitals. 1.20 crore senior citizens have joined the Ayushman Bharat Vay Vandana scheme, with 13.84 lakh treatments already provided. Primary care is also growing, with 1.86 lakh Ayushman Arogya Mandirs now working across the country.

Digital health progress

Digital change is happening fast through the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission. With 96.43 crore ABHA health IDs created and 110 crore records linked, the digital health system is very strong. These efforts, along with the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission, make sure that critical care and public health labs reach every district.
