Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana Reaches 59 Crore Account Milestone

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently mentioned the success of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. This scheme now has over 59 crore accounts. Since starting in 2014, it has helped many people get access to banking. Total deposits have reached ₹3 lakh 17 thousand crore.

Achievements as of August 2026 include:

• Women account holders are 33 crore, which is 56% of all accounts.
• Rural and semi-urban areas have 46 crore accounts, or 78% of the total.
• More than 41 crore RuPay cards have been given to eligible people.
• Over 13.5 lakh Bank Mitras now provide banking services to remote areas.
• Nearly 100% of villages have a banking outlet within 5 km.

Banking for everyone

The government also noted that DBT payments have sent ₹53 lakh crore to eligible people. This process removes middlemen and makes sure money reaches the right hands clearly.
