Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana Completes 12 Years

Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana marked 12 years on August 28, 2026. Prime Minister Narendra Modi started this scheme on August 28, 2014. It is the largest financial inclusion drive in the world.

Scheme performance and reach

Over 59 crore accounts have been opened since the start. These accounts hold total deposits of 3.17 lakh crore rupees. The average deposit per account is 5,356 rupees.

Data from the Finance Ministry shows that 78 per cent of these accounts are in rural or semi-urban areas. Also, approximately 56 per cent of total accounts belong to women. This shows the success of the scheme in helping poor families. This program remains the main part of banking access across India.
