Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana Completes 12 Years

Launched on August 28, 2014, Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana has finished 12 years of helping people access banking services across India. This scheme helped open over 59 crore bank accounts, with total deposits of 3 lakh 17 thousand crore rupees.

Scheme Progress and Impact

About 78 per cent of these accounts belong to people in rural or semi-urban areas. Women hold about 56 per cent of all accounts. Also, the government issued over 41 crore RuPay cards to people. The effect of the scheme is clear, as the Financial Inclusion Index for India grew from 53.9 in 2018 to 67 in 2026. Average deposits are now 5,356 rupees per account, showing why this scheme is very important for families with money problems.
