PM Surya Ghar Yojana Reaches 50 Lakh Households Milestone

India reached an energy goal as PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana reached over 50.06 lakh households. Ministry of New and Renewable Energy confirmed this on 4 August 2026. This growth is much faster than the 7.94 lakh installations seen in the ten years before the scheme started.

Scheme budget is Rs 75,021 crore. It aims to reach 1 crore homes. As of July 2026, daily installation numbers reached nearly 16,328. Financial support is strong, with Rs 28,024 crore paid out through DBT payment. Also, 19 lakh households now pay zero for electricity. Over 12 lakh families earned a total of Rs 421 crore by exporting extra power in FY 2024-25.

Scheme application process

Government made the process easier by using Jan Samarth integration. This allows for paperless applications. Subsidies are paid within 15 days. 32 states and union territories removed net metering charges. The scheme is now growing to include government buildings and urban areas as part of the complete list of schemes launched by PM Narendra Modi.
