PM Surya Ghar Yojana 2026: How to Get Rs 78,000 Solar Subsidy & Cut Your Electricity Bill

PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana helps households install rooftop solar. Households can get a central subsidy of up to ₹78,000. As of 22 July 2026, 39.72 lakh systems have been installed. That means over 48 lakh households benefit. More than 18.93 lakh households have received zero electricity bills for at least one billing period.

The government approved the scheme with a budget of ₹75,021 crore. It targets 1 crore households. Households get ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and ₹18,000 for the next 1 kW. The subsidy cap is 3 kW. After subsidy, a 1 kW system costs about ₹90,000 to ₹1 lakh. A 2 kW system costs ₹1.20 to ₹1.30 lakh. A 3 kW system costs ₹1.52 to ₹1.62 lakh.

How to apply

Apply online through the National Portal. Register with your state and DISCOM. Submit your consumer number and get technical approval. Then choose a vendor, install the system, and complete net metering. You get the subsidy within 30 days after final submission. Keep your electricity details, identity proof, property documents, and bank details ready.
