Odisha Achieves Milestone with 1.63 Lakh Rooftop Solar Installations

Odisha has made good progress in renewable energy by setting up over 1.63 lakh rooftop solar systems under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. Since the scheme started in February 2024, the state has processed over 3 lakh applications and helped 1,64,903 households by August 2026.

Central government released ₹746.67 crore in money help to support this switch. Baleshwar leads the state in installations, followed by Ganjam and Khordha. More than 37,678 families report receiving zero electricity bills. Eligible people can get collateral-free loans at a 5.75% interest rate through the JanSamarth portal to set up their own systems.
