New Cybersecurity Mandates for PM Surya Ghar Rooftop Solar Installations

India is improving rooftop solar security as PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana grows. As of 12 August 2026, the scheme reached 51.58 lakh households with 14.8 GW of installed capacity. To protect energy systems, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) now requires strict communication rules for all new setups.

New installation requirements

Under current rules, all inverter communication devices, dongles, and data loggers must use industrial SIM cards instead of standard consumer ones. Devices must register on a government-hosted national platform in India. This makes sure data stays safe and encrypted.

A rule from March 2026 says you must set up all devices using the official MNRE application. You can no longer use generic installer tools or vendor apps to set up your system.

Installers and manufacturers must meet these digital standards to stay in the scheme. If you do not follow these technical rules, your devices cannot connect to the national grid. Compliance is necessary for all ongoing solar projects.
