Landless Households Await PMAY-G Allotment in Jammu and Kashmir

Thousands of families in Jammu and Kashmir wait for land to build homes. Out of 3,673 eligible landless households identified under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin, only 498 got land so far. This leaves 3,175 families in a hard spot.

Union Minister for Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan shared these numbers in Lok Sabha. The region has a target of 3,41,644 houses. While 3,26,860 houses are complete, 14,784 are still being built. Across the country, about 2.36 lakh families wait for land or support under this scheme.

Project status and next steps

The government approved Phase-II of the project. It aims to build two crore more rural houses by March 2029. Officials point to issues like migration, land disputes, and people not wanting the land as reasons for delays.

To speed things up, the Centre uses a dashboard for monitoring and holds regular workshops with local officials. Rural mason training programs are also running to help finish work faster. These training efforts aim to help complete the remaining houses on time.
