Kolkata Hospitals Demand Tier 1 Ayushman Bharat Rates

Hospitals in Kolkata are asking the state government to raise reimbursement rates for Ayushman Bharat to Tier 1 levels. Currently, West Bengal is in the Tier 3 category. Hospitals say this is not sustainable because running costs in the city are very high.

Association of Hospitals of Eastern India has written to Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari about this problem. They are worried that without a change, the scheme could struggle like Swasthya Sathi did. Many private hospitals chose not to join Swasthya Sathi because the payments were too low. Tier 1 rates are required to make sure the scheme works well and is accepted by hospitals across the region.
