Investigation into PMAY Irregularities in Siliguri

Former Siliguri Municipal Corporation councillor Ram Bhajan Mahato spent hours answering police questions at Pradhan Nagar Police Station on August 20. The questioning centered on alleged wrongdoing in Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana. This follows a Calcutta High Court order that gave him temporary protection from arrest but requires him to help investigators with their work.

Vikrant Bimal filed the complaint that started this case. It pointed out that ineligible people, such as wealthy hotel and building owners, received housing benefits. Police arrested two suspects, Biswajit Saha and Rakesh Shah, on August 14. During the recent questioning, police found more potential misuse involving a retired government official in Ward No. 03. Officials are currently preparing a report on these findings for the next court hearing.
