India Financial Inclusion Index Reaches 67 in 2026

Financial Inclusion Index for India rose from 53.9 in 2018 to 67 by August 2026. This shows better access to loans, insurance, and digital payments across the country. A main part of this growth is Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana. Since 2015, the number of accounts under this scheme grew four times, reaching 59.09 crore.
Banking growth across India
Deposits in these accounts grew 20 times to reach ₹3,16,514 crore by August 19, 2026. 32.92 crore of these account holders are women, which helps reduce the gender gap in banking. Also, 41.29 crore RuPay debit cards are now out, helping poor families use digital payments. The scheme provides insurance, pension, and an overdraft facility of up to ₹10,000 for eligible account holders.
