India Farm Economy Growth and Agriculture GVA Update

Agriculture in India grew quickly over the last decade. Gross Value Added for agriculture and related sectors rose from ₹20.94 lakh crore in 2014-15 to about ₹52.08 lakh crore by 2025-26. Budget allocations for the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare also increased, hitting ₹1,40,528.78 crore for 2026-27.

Foodgrain production reached 376.56 million tonnes in 2025-26, and horticulture output hit 377.78 million tonnes. Direct support is a top priority. More than ₹4.47 lakh crore went to farmers through PM-KISAN. Also, 7.28 crore Kisan Credit Card accounts are active.

Progress in farming practices

Government work supports sustainable habits. Officials issued over 26.09 crore Soil Health Cards. They also covered 18.93 lakh hectares under Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana.

New technology is changing how farms work. Officials created 10.31 crore Farmer IDs under the Digital Agriculture Mission. The livestock and fisheries sectors are also doing well. India remains the world's largest milk producer with 248 million tonnes in 2024-25.
