Gujarat: Over 1.5 Lakh Women Face Aadhaar Hurdles in PM Matru Vandana Yojana

More than 1.5 lakh women in Gujarat are waiting for PM Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) payments because of technical problems with Aadhaar. Lok Sabha data presented on August 7, 2026 shows 93,572 women could not get benefits because their Aadhaar was not linked to NPCI. Another 60,108 had biometric or facial authentication failures with UIDAI.

Rejections in Gujarat

Gujarat saw 75,437 rejected installments between FY24 and August 5, 2026. Rejections peaked at 51,520 in FY25, though applications for installments fell to 3,11,383 that year. In FY26, rejections dropped to 13,755. In FY27 (up to August 5), only 5,285 got rejected.

Across India, 6,13,633 women had Aadhaar-NPCI mapping problems, and 5,29,554 faced biometric authentication failures. Women and Child Development Ministry says rejections happen when a woman is not eligible, her documents are wrong, or she already received the full benefit.

On April 1, 2023, the ministry moved PMMVY to a new paperless system. Payments now go through the Aadhaar Bridge Payment System. The system has safeguards like application tracking, complaint help, and SMS alerts. But the gap between registration and payment is still there. Central data does not give a year-wise split for women who faced technical failures, because applicants can leave the pending list once their issues are fixed.
