Government Targets 10-Fold Increase in Compressed Biogas Production

India plans to increase energy security. The government aims to raise compressed biogas production to 5 million standard cubic metres per day in 5 to 10 years. Production is now at 0.4 mmscmd, but officials think it can reach 10 mmscmd.

To fix supply chain issues, Govardhan scheme is being used. It makes work easier through a single portal and gives long-term sales safety by linking plants to city gas networks. Producers can expect stable pricing for at least 10 years.

Financial Support Details

The Centre will pay 80 per cent of building costs for cluster links and 50 per cent for single plants. Also, capital financing support of up to 2 crore rupees per tonne per day is available. MSMEs will get a credit guarantee to help them set up new plants.
