Short Update
Government Sets New Target of 6 Crore Lakhpati Didis

Prime Minister Narendra Modi set a new goal to help rural women by creating 6 crore Lakhpati Didis. This update, shared during the Independence Day address on August 15, 2026, builds on the earlier 3 crore target. By July 2026, over 3.46 crore women reached this status.
Being a Lakhpati Didi does not mean receiving a one-time payment. It means a woman in a Self-Help Group earns at least ₹1 lakh every year in a stable way. This income is worked out over four farming or business cycles to make sure the monthly income is at least ₹10,000. This scheme works under Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission, which currently helps around 92 lakh Self-Help Groups across the country.

Women can earn this money through activities like farming, dairy, handicrafts, or small businesses. To help with this, the government plans 700 SHE-MARTs and 1,000 district fulfilment centres to help these business owners reach more customers. If you are a member of a Self-Help Group, talk to your local livelihood team to learn how you can join and build a steady income.
