Five Years of e-Shram Portal: Digital Social Security for Unorganised Workers

Since starting three years ago, e-Shram portal has registered 31.89 crore workers from India's unorganised sector. Launched on August 26, 2021, by Ministry of Labour and Employment, this platform gives a unique 12-digit Universal Account Number (UAN) to eligible workers. This includes farm labourers, gig workers, and street vendors.

New features for workers

An update in October 2024 launched e-Shram One-Stop Solution. This interface now brings 15 welfare schemes together, such as PM-SYM, PMSBY, PMJJBY, and PMAY-G, into one place. Workers can now get skill training, find jobs through National Career Service, and use pension services directly on the portal.

Registration is free for people aged 16 and above who do not pay income tax or belong to EPFO/ESIC. With support for 22 languages through Bhashini, the platform is easy for many workers to use. Eligible workers can sign up on the official portal or visit their nearest Common Service Centre.
