Fisheries Sector Growth and Government Support Schemes

Fisheries sector growth is a main part of the economy in India. It added 7.43 per cent to the Agricultural GVA in 2023-24. Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh provided these numbers in the Rajya Sabha. He pointed out how the sector helps with food and jobs. Government support for fishers comes through schemes like Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and Fisheries and Aquaculture Infrastructure Development Fund.

Financial help for fishers

Fishers can get money help using Kisan Credit Card, which has been open to them since 2018-19. For people interested in aquaculture insurance, Pradhan Mantri Matsya Kisan Samridhi Sah-Yojana gives a 40 per cent incentive on insurance costs. This help is limited to ₹25,000 per hectare or ₹1 lakh per farmer. Special provisions are also there for SC, ST, and women. They get an extra 10 per cent incentive on top of regular benefits.
