Delhi Lakshmi Yojana Eligibility Criteria and Concerns

Delhi Lakshmi Yojana supports 17 lakh women from poor families in the national capital. Eligible women aged 21 to 60 years get ₹2,500 monthly. The scheme has a rule that leaves out women who have more than two children.

Concerns about scheme rules

Some people say this rule is unfair. It ignores the fact that many women have little control over family planning. The need for family planning services reached 7.3 percent in 2023-24. There are also worries that conditional cash transfers might make gender inequality worse. This includes a preference for male children. This is a real risk because Delhi's sex ratio at birth has dropped for four years in a row. It reached 920 females for every 1,000 males in 2024. Providing money help to families often carries social risks that need careful thought.
