Delhi Government Announces Free Solar Panels for Households

Delhi residents using up to 400 units of electricity each month can now install rooftop solar systems of up to 3 kilowatts for free. The government covers all installation costs, which removes the money problem that stopped many from using PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. This scheme helps 2.3 lakh households by March 2027 and adds 500 MW of solar capacity.

Solar policy updates

As per the updated Delhi Solar Energy Policy, selected vendors provide five years of free maintenance. Registration fees are removed, and the net metering process now takes 25 days. Moving from a five-year incentive model to upfront money help will likely increase the number of users. Eligible households can get existing electricity subsidies along with these new solar benefits.
