Concerns Raised Over Declining Enrolment in Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana

Rajya Sabha MP Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa raised concerns about Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Over the past two years, 73 lakh farmers have left the scheme. This represents 29.6 percent of participants. The drop shows that many farmers are unhappy with how crop loss is measured and how long it takes to settle claims.

Randhawa also pointed out that cotton farming has dropped in Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan. Cotton acreage fell by 6.77 lakh acres in a single year. He asked the government to use field-level loss assessments instead of current methods. He also requested better market support so that farmers can manage rising costs and uncertain yields, which is important for their income.
