Chandigarh and Dadra & Nagar Haveli to Launch CBDC Food Subsidy Transfers
Welfare delivery will change as government plans to launch Central Bank Digital Currency for food subsidies. From August 14, 2026, Chandigarh and Dadra & Nagar Haveli will start using Digital Rupee tokens for Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana.
How this works
Eligible families get their subsidy directly in CBDC wallets. People can use these tokens to buy foodgrains at approved fair price shops. This scheme helps stop leaks and reduces subsidy misuse. This is a pilot project to check how digital currency works with large welfare programs before a wider launch.
