Bihar to Revive Sugar Mills and Boost Cooperative Sector

Bihar is working to restart its sugar industry. Indian Potash Ltd (IPL) has signed a deal to run two new sugar mills in Sakri and Raiyam. These mills will have distilleries and biogas units to help local farmers. Through Samriddh Udyog-Sashakt Bihar, the government will help increase rural jobs and income.

Modernizing state agriculture and cooperatives

The state has launched Bihar State Cooperative Policy, 2026 to update the cooperative movement. The government is also building more vegetable infrastructure. This includes setting up 350 collection centres at the panchayat level and giving working capital to Primary Vegetable Producer Cooperative Societies. Also, Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana will start from the 2026-27 Rabi season. It will provide crop insurance to farmers for a small premium.
