Andhra Pradesh Records Massive Surge in Crop Insurance Enrollment

Andhra Pradesh reached a target in farm protection for the Kharif 2026 season. Due to state efforts to reduce El Niño risks, registrations for non-loanee farmers grew by 1,263%. The number of participants rose from 2 lakh to 25.26 lakh.

Data from the Director of Agriculture confirms that 16.77 lakh hectares of land now have cover. This covers 72% of the total sown area. Total insurance applications hit 42.44 lakh for Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana and the Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme. Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana closed enrollment on August 31. The other scheme closed on August 15. Paddy and Groundnut were the main crops in these schemes. This gives farmers a money safety net against changing weather.
