Jammu and Kashmir government has launched J&K Universal Health Scheme 2020-21 to provide free health insurance to all residents. Under this scheme, around 1.25 crore people can avail same benefits as provided under Ayushman Bharat PMJAY which covers 31 lakh people (5.95 lakh families) in J&K. All the people can now avail free health insurance coverage of Rs. 5 lakh per family per year on floater basis. Moreover, there is no restriction on family size, age or gender.
In the J&K Universal Health Scheme, the govt. will now cover 94 lakh more people (15 lakh families). A total of 1.25 crore people can now avail cashless and paperless treatment at all govt. and empanelled private hospitals.

The beneficiaries shall have access to 20,853 (public and private) hospitals across the country and avail benefits with facility of inter-state portability. In J&K union territory, there are 159 public and private empanelled hospitals. J&K Universal Health Scheme will cover 1,469 medical and surgical packages / procedures. This scheme will include life consuming diseases such as cancer and kidney failure.
This scheme would also cover treatment for oncology, cardiology and nephrology related illness from day one including high-end diagnostic procedures during hospitalization. All the J&K Universal Health Scheme beneficiaries shall be eligible for coverage of 3 days pre-hospitalization and 15 days post-hospitalization expenses.
The decision to provide free health insurance under Jammua and Kashmir Universal Health Scheme was taken at a meeting by the administrative council. This scheme will cover all employees, pensioners and their family members. Moreover, employees will continue to get Rs. 300 p.m as medical allowance to take care of OPD treatment.
Govt. will perform identification of the illegible families for getting registered for the Health Scheme on the basis of socio-economic census (SECC) data 2011. Furthermore, the families/persons that have been left out in the census can be enrolled on the basis of a defined process.
