Prime Minister Narendra Modi led central govt. had launched e-Gopala Mobile App on 10 September 2020 in Bihar. This app is a comprehensive breed improvement marketplace and information portal for direct use of farmers. All the android smartphone users can now download e-Gopala Mobile App from google play store. Along with this app, Modi also launched PM Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) to transform fisheries sector as a part of Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan.

e-GOPALA provides platform to farmers in the country for managing livestock. It includes buying and selling of disease free germplasm in all forms (semen, embryos, etc). This app tells about availability of quality breeding services (Artificial Insemination, veterinary first aid, vaccination, treatment etc. Moreover, e-Gopala mobile app will guide farmers for animal nutrition, treatment of animals using appropriate ayurvedic medicine/ethno veterinary medicine.

There is a mechanism to send alert (on due date for vaccination, pregnancy diagnosis, calving etc) and inform farmers about various government schemes and campaigns.

After the launch of the PMMSY scheme and the e-Gopala app, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar said that the project will help the pisciculture and animal husbandry sector. These initiatives will also allow help in bringing variety and new technologies in the fisheries and animal husbandry.

Benefits of e-Gopala Mobile App

Central govt. has launched e-Gopala mobile app to provide solutions to farmers on livestock related issues. At present, there is no digital platform available in the country for farmers managing livestock. It includes the following things:-

  • Buying and selling of disease free germplasm in all forms, such as semen and embryos.
  • Availability of quality breeding services, such as Artificial Insemination, veterinary first aid, vaccination, and treatment
  • Guiding farmers for animal nutrition, treatment of animals using appropriate ayurvedic medicine or ethno veterinary medicine.

PM Modi inaugurated Semen Station with state-of-the-art facilities in Purnea with an investment of Rs. 84.27 crore on 75 acres of land made available by the Bihar government.

PM Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) Launch

Central govt. has also launched Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY) for the fisheries sector alongwith the e-Gopala mobile app. As a part of the Aatma Nirbhar Bharat package, the Centre will invest Rs 20,050 crore for its implementation during 2020-21 to 2024-25.

PMMSY scheme aims to raise the fish production by an additional 70 lakh tonne by 2024-25 and reduce the post-harvest losses from 20-25% to about 10%. It has also said that the PMMSY will increase the fisheries export earnings to Rs 1,00,000 crore by 2024-25.
