Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban, a flagship housing scheme of central government will list 2.5 Lakh beneficiaries in Pune to provide affordable housing benefits. The housing benefits under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana to 2.5 lakh families would be provided in the areas of two corporations of Pune and Pimpri Chinchwad and 13 municipal councils.
The target of 2.5 Lakh houses by the year 2022 can be achieved by constructing 50 thousand homes every year for the next 5 years. Pune district collector Saurabh Rao will be submitting a proposal in this regard to the state government by April 30. However, the state government has asked all the district collectors to sent at least 2 proposals by the end of this month for implementation of the scheme.
The district administration has already conducted the survey for housing and there are about 2.5 Lakh families in the list for whom housing units will be constructed in phases. 7 councils out of 13 between the two corporations have already been selected where 14000 homes would be constructed out of 13 in the first phase. Rest 36000 homes would be constructed in the second phase of the scheme.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban, the central government is providing financial assistance in different forms to urban homeless poor. The government is providing up to 2.35 Lakh rupees in form of interest subsidy on home loans taken in 2017. The government has recently introduced CLSS for MIG under which it is providing interest subsidy on home loans to middle income group of the society.
