Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin or PMAY-G, a revamped version of the Indira Awas Yojana rural housing scheme may be formerly launched near Diwali this year. According to the notification published on iay.nic.in, the Prime Minister shall launch the scheme in the last week of October.
After the formal launch by the Prime Minister, the states and UTs may proceed with the regional launches to achieve more publicity of the scheme. The functions for regional launch of PMAY-G will be organized within 15-20 days after nationwide launch of the scheme by Shri Narendra Modi.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Gramin, the central government have increased the subsidy amount and the procedures for beneficiaries and the authorities. Under PMAY-G, government will build 3 Crore homes in the rural areas in the country by the year 2022.
Out of the total, 1 Crore homes will be constructed in a span of three years from 2016-17 to 2018-19 with a budget of Rs. 81,975 crore. The cost of unit (house) assistance is to be shared between central and state governments in the ratio 60:40 in plain areas and 90:10 for north-eastern and hilly states.
The selection of the beneficiaries under PM Awas Yojana – Gramin would be done on the basis of SECC-2011 data.
