Major Changes in PM Scholarship Yojana 2019 Approved
The other changes made under PM Scholarship Yojana are as follows:-
- The scope of PM scholarship scheme is extended to the wards of state police officials who are / were martyred during terrorists or naxal attacks.
- The quota of new scholarships for wards of state police officials would be 500 in a single year. The Ministry of Home Affairs will be the nodal ministry in this regard.
- Previously, the children of martyrs like Tukaram Omble (killed during Mumbai terror attack) were not eligible for scholarship under PMSS scheme. This new move will remove this anomaly and help families of all those deceased while fighting terror/naxals in state police forces.
The changes under PM Scholarship Yojana 2019 comes in line with the PM’s vision for India’s safety, security and the well-being of those who protect the nation.
National Defence Fund for PM’s Scholarship Scheme 2019
National Defence Fund (NDF) was set up in FY 1962 to take charge of the voluntary donations in cash and kind received for promotion of the national defense effort and to decide on their utilization. NDF is currently used for the welfare of the members of the armed forces, paramilitary forces and Railway Protection Force (RPF) and their dependents.
The Prime Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (PMSS) is now being being implemented to encourage technical and post-graduate education for widows and wards of the deceased/ex-service personnel of armed forces and paramilitary forces and RPF. Under PMSS, every year new scholarships are given to 5,500 wards of armed forces, 2,000 wards of paramilitary forces and for 150 wards of RPF.
