PM Modi Common Livestock Diseases Control Scheme 2019

The Union Cabinet Committee in its 1st meeting of Modi 2.0 govt. in May 2019 had announced to bear the entire cost of Rs. 13,350 crore under an existing scheme. This already existing scheme seeks to control livestock diseases especially FMD and brucellosis in next 5 years.

Previously, the central govt. and the corresponding state govt’s used to make contribution in 60:40 ratio. These 2 types of diseases are common in livestock which includes cow, bulls, buffaloes, sheep, goats and pigs. PM Modi Common Livestock Diseases Control Scheme 2019 will provide vaccination coverage to 30 crore bovines (cow-bulls & buffaloes).

This scheme will also provide vaccination to 20 crore sheep & goat and 10 million pigs. In case a cow or buffalo gets infected with FMD, then the milk loss is upto 100% which could last for 4 to 6 months duration. If an animal is suffering from Brucellosis, then the milk output reduces by 30% during the entire life cycle. Moreover, this disease also causes infertility among animals.

Furthermore, the infection of brucellosis can even gets transmitted to farm workers and livestock owners. Both FMD and Brucellosis diseases have a direct negative impact on the trade of milk and other livestock products.
