Central government led by PM Narendra Modi has decided to launch Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan. The new massive rural public works scheme will empower and provide livelihood opportunities to the returnee migrant workers and citizens in villages. Prime Minister Modi will launch this PM Garib Kalyan Rojgar Yojana on 20 June 2020 at 11 a.m through video conferencing in the presence of CM and Dy. CM of Bihar.
At first, the PM Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan would be launched from village – Telihar, block – Beldaur of Khagaria District of Bihar. Moreover, the chief ministers of other 5 states as well as union ministers of concerned ministries will also participate in the virtual launch of PM Gariba Kalyan Rojgar Yojana.
The villages across 116 districts in the 6 states will join this programme through the Common Service Centres and Krishi Vigyan Kendras. These CSCs and KVKs will maintain the social distancing norms in the wake of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

PM Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan Launch Date / Last Date
The official launch of the PM Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyan will take place on 20 June 2020 (Saturday). The campaign will be of 125 days and will work in mission mode. Accordingly, the last date for Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan will be 22 October 2020 (Thursday). PMGKRA Rural employment campaign will involve intensified and focused implementation of 25 types of works. The main objective is to provide employment work to migrant workers. Moreover, govt. will also focus on creation of infrastructure in rural regions of the country. The resource envelope for PMGKRA is of Rs. 50,000 crore.

List of States / Districts chosen for PMGKRA Implementation
A total of 116 districts (inclusive of 27 aspirational districts) with more than 25,000 returnee migrant workers across 6 States have been chosen for PMGKRA implementation. The names of these states are Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha. These chosen districts are estimated to cover about 2/3rd of such migrant workers.

Earlier on 5 May 2020, PM Modi had also started Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP).
